The weekend of 24th 25th June at Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club's "Tasarfest" saw eight Tasers, all from Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club, taking part.
Mediterranean conditions with 8-12kts saw race 1 off with a start line incident where John Snowden from the port end of the start nearly took out a number of boats who made evasive manoeuvres. John & Jeremy retired due to gear malfunction whilst the fleet got off with a split windward leg which was closely contested between Dan Hollands and Chris Barnes.
On lap 2 near the leeward mark Dan Hollands was closing in on Chris Barnes and managed to get water on the inside, which saw Chris capsize and unfortunately retire for the day. This left Dan to take first and Rob Purvis second.
The second race took place with lighter winds, no starting incidents this time, Rob Purvis and Dan Hollands leading the pack. Rob took the win by mere millimetres with Dan second.
The third race saw the wind drop again to below 5kts. Dan Hollands, taking the lead to the windward mark, followed by Tony Wyatt and crew Harriet Wright who were taken at the windward mark by Rob Purvis just skipping in front to port.
After dropping back to fourth Tony chased down third place Antonio with some innovative use of the jib pole and went to windward on the second lap, overtaking and taking third. Anthony Elford & Barry Hall retired, John & Jeremy came in having taken on a hull full of water through the daggerboard casing.
Sunday saw a beautifully hot morning, all sailors sitting on the sunrise balcony waiting for the wind; having looked at various apps and local weather stations in the hope of a miracle which didn't happen the days racing was called off and the prize-giving took place.
Dan Hollands & crew Alastair Gibson took first overall, with Rob & Chrissy Purvis second.
Friday 7th July sees the start of the Tasar Nationals at Paignton Sailing Club. There are still a couple of first timer free entry slots available so why not join us?!
