Stoneways Marine, one of the UK's leading marine insurance brokers, is delighted to reveal the winners of its Amateur Marine Photographer of the Year 2024 competition.
The annual competition which has now run for three years, aims to showcase the marine industry and boating lifestyle through the photographic talent and artistic viewpoint of those involved in all aspects of boating. The nature of the marine industry, revolving around water means there is a photogenic opportunity around every corner.
2024's theme was simply 'Boating Through a Lens', allowing complete freedom for budding photographers to capture the beauty and excitement involved in getting afloat. The competition drew an incredible array of entries that truly capture the essence of life on the water and the
judges had a hard time selecting their top three.
The winners are as follows:
1st place is awarded to Alan Jenkins for his fabulous photo of two RNLI Shannon class Lifeboat's cruising together up the Mersey with the skyline of Liverpool in the background. The grey city landscape really highlights the two Lifeboats, enabling them to stand out with their bright orange contrast and it's an even more special winner with the RNLI celebrating it's 200th anniversary this year.
2nd place is awarded to Jenevora Swann for her image of a fleet of yachts enjoying their race in the Solent, with stunning scenery and sharp focus it captures 2024's theme perfectly.
3rd place goes to Neil Tilsed for his image showcasing a stunning sunset over Poole Harbour. The unique blend of colours lighting up the sky with the boat silhouettes in the background really shows how majestic life on the water can be and how much boating and the natural world are intertwined.
The three talented winners have each received a bundle of prizes including chandlery vouchers and branded clothing as well as having their images published in the 2025 Stoneways Marine Calendar which is widely shared around the UK Marine Industry.
Managing director, Keith Lovett, commented, "I was quite taken a back at the number and quality of entries we received this year. It made crowning the overall winners much harder, but was quite an enjoyable task gaining inspiration from seeing how entrants view the boating life and what makes it special to them. Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2024 competition and huge congratulations to our winners."
