Angel of the North
The Angel of the North at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club saw sailable wind all weekend, albeit shifty, which made it tough for the race committee. There were 24 team entries, comprising thirteen teams from the North of England, ten Scottish teams, and a Derwent Youth Team who managed an impressive thirteenth place overall.
In an HLS format, teams raced hard throughout the weekend. Semi-Finals were Manchester 1s, Liverpool 1s, St Andrews Pink and SSS went through as the top four from the HLS.
However, there had been some close competition from Tartan Titans and Edinburgh 3s who only lost out on the Semi-Finals due to a tie-breaker. Semi-Finals, were a first to two race wins format, where Manchester 1s beat off strong competition from SSS, whilst Liverpool 1s were successful against St Andrews Pink.
The end of the day the wind dropped off significantly for the Final and Petit Final.
The slow team racing suited Manchester 1s as they won against their neighbours and rivals Liverpool 1s in the Final to pick up the Angel of the North Trophy for first place overall. Meanwhile, SSS were able to see off St Andrews Pink in the Petit Final to claim third overall.
Swansea Spartan
In Wales the weather was kinder for the Swansea Spartan, but very wet on the Saturday. Eleven teams had a total of 87 races over the weekend. At the end of the knock outs the results gave Swansea Alumni a win over Southampton Red with Cardiff Chilly in third place ahead of Bath.
