Seven multihulls are now in the running for the Budget Marine Windies Multihull Trophy (WMT) after the early Caribbean events including the Round Barbados Sailing Week, Grenada Sailing Week and the Caribbean Multihull Trophy in Sint Maarten.

To qualify to win, the top five (5) scores across all regattas entered will be calculated. Five (5) races and regattas in, the points tally so far is:

  • Spirit of Everest (Barbados Sailing Week, Around Barbados, Rum to Spice, Grenada Sailing Week) 10 points
  • Layla (Caribbean Multihull Challenge) 6 points
  • Lee Overlay Partners (Caribbean Multihull Challenge) 4 points
  • Calamity (Caribbean Multihull Challenge) 3 points
  • Oceans Tribute (Caribbean Multihull Challenge) 2 points
  • Catalyst (Rum to Spice) 1 point
  • MG5 (Caribbean Multihull Challenge) 1 point

Event winners get a bonus point and scores are determined by fleet size in each event (the more boats the better the score!).

Calamity, Oceans Tribute and MG5 are all entering the RORC Caribbean 600 and will be keenly fighting for more points!

With seven more events coming up the Windies Multihull Trophy is still very much undecided. Upcoming events for the season are:

  • Antigua 360
  • RORC Caribbean 600
  • St. Maarten Heineken Regatta
  • Round Tortola Race
  • BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival
  • Round Antigua Race
  • Antigua Sailing Week
Of the racing so far WMT founder Guy Chester says, "It's great to see the range of multihulls racing, from state-of-the-art foiling catamaran to older liveaboard catamaran to a 34-year-old timber trimaran! The CSA multihull rating gives all a chance to win and score more points this season."
