The 54th edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca will be the starting signal for the race for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.

The first qualifying event for the 2025 Sailing Grand Slam (SGS) will muster all ten sailing disciplines of the new Olympic cycle in the Bay of Palma from March 28 to April 5.

With exactly two months to go until the start of the competition program of the 54 Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca, the list of pre-registrations suggests there will be an intense battle for the Mallorcan classic, an event which world reference for Olympic classes. From March 29 to April 6, the best athletes across the ten disciplines of the current Olympic cycle will compete on the Bay of Palma: the men's ILCA 7, 49er, iQFOiL Men and Formula Kite Men; the women's ILCA 6, 49er FX, iQFOiL Women and Formula Kite Women; and the mixed 470 and Nacra 17.

"The Bay of Palma will once again become the world center of Olympic sailing thanks to the joint efforts of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Nàutic S'Arenal and Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, and the support of the Balearic, Spanish and international federations," explains Ferran Muniesa, technical director of the event. "The pre-registrations are progressing at a good pace, and with the organization we are working hard to enhance the status of the Sofia as a reference event in the annual calendar of athletes and their federations. In this edition we will have interesting new features, both logistically and sporting, with which we will try to give a new twist to the level of the event in and out of the water."

The Real Federación Española de Vela (Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, RFEV) anticipates an interesting edition with the incorporation of new sailing promises. According to Xisco Gil, director of Olympic preparation of the RFEV: "Undoubtedly, the Trofeo Princesa Sofia is the starting signal for the Olympic campaign of LA'28. Olympic sailing resumes the natural four-year cycle after the three-year sprint in Paris, which means that many of the outstanding sailors have not yet joined the new season. But that will allow to see the new promises of each country in the ten Olympic modalities, being this an appointment that will undoubtedly show a mix between experience and youth that will allow to see a competition of the most interesting in the bay of Palma, so loved by Olympic sailors from all over the world."

The 54 Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofia Mallorca is held under the joint organization of the Club Nàutic S'Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Real Federación Española de Vela and the Federación Balear de Vela, with the support of World Sailing and the main Balearic public institutions.

The 54 Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca is part of the Sailing Grand Slam 2025 along with the Semaine Olympique Française, the Dutch Water Week, the Kieler Woche and the Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta.
