Father Frost Regatta 2024: An unforgettable weekend!

by J-Boats 24 Nov 20:19 NZDT

The Hamburger Segel Club hosted forty-two boats with 186 participants this past weekend. The HSC RC/ PRO team did an excellent job in the challenging lake winds to run seven exciting races in three classes: J/22s, J/24s, and J/70s. Despite the foggy November weather, the sailors were able to start fantastic races and experience the beautiful Alster Lake to the fullest with light winds.

The evening "Father Frost Party" was another highlight of the weekend. People danced on the dance floor to music from a killer D.J. spinning the disks until well after midnight!! A great end to a fun and eventful day!

J/22 Class

Winning was Thomas Lösch's crew of Gabi Kretschmer and Silke Basedow with a record of 2-2-1-5-4-3-1 for 13 pts net. Just one point back was Thorsten Spotter's crew of Hannes Ranke and Florian Buchs with scoreline of 5-1-11-1-1-1-1-5 for 14 pts net. Rounding out the podium were Reiner Brockerhoff and Christoph Declerque took the bronze medal with a record of 3-7-2-2-2-5-4 for 18 pts net.

J/24 Class

The always competitive J/24 class was won by Till Pomarius's team of Thorsten Paech, Jannik Duehren, Moritz Book, and Jonas Lyssewski; their record of 2-5-2-1-11-4-1 was good for 15 pts net. Taking the silver medal was the veteran Manfred Konig's team of Tina Luelfing, Nils Glockow, Malte Gibbe, and Stephan Kessenich with a 2-5-2-1-11-4-1 roller-coaster tally of 15 pts net. Rounding out the podium with the bronze medal was Lynn Wolgast's crew of Erik Gente, Malena Phillippi, Lynn Thorns, and Lena Harder with a steady tally of 5-2-42-4-3-7 for 20 pts net.

J/70 Class

After seven races, the three-way battle for the podium was finally settled in a cloud of dust and spray in the last race. Winning by a single point was Jokob Porthun (ASVW) team of Paul Arp, Adrian Helbig, and Eric Werner. Starting with a slow 6th place, they closed with all podium finishes of 2-2-2-3-2-1 for 12 pts net!

Losing that battle and earning the silver medal was Johannes Machur's crew of Maybritt Adolphi, Till Kruger, and Henrike Germer with a 7-3-1-4-1-1-3 tally for 13 pts.

Taking the bronze medal was Siri Segger's NRV team of Jola Schonebck, Oliver Sanders, and Bjarne Stegelmann. Their record was a steady 3-1-5-3-2-2-4-2 for 15 pts. That was very competitive racing amongst the top three teams!
