Stig and La Pericolosa share lead after opening day
The Cape 31 European Championship kicked off in spectacular fashion on the first day of racing at the Sanremo Yacht Club, with 22 teams from 13 nations battling it out in perfect conditions. With clear skies, a consistent 20-knot breeze, and a significant swell, the opening day of the regatta offered the ideal environment for thrilling competition on the water.
The racing was intense, with Alessandro Rombelli's Stig Sailing—a brand new boat delivered just a few weeks ago—showing remarkable performance despite being fresh out of the box. Stig Sailing found itself in a tie for first place with Christian Schwoerer's La Pericolosa, both teams finishing the day with 7 points and one race win apiece.
Shotgunn, the well-known team led by Michael Wilson, held third position with 12 points.
Results after Day 1: (top three, full results so far here)
1st: Stig (ITA) - Alessandro Rombelli - 7pts
1st: La Pericolosa (GER) - Christian Schwoerer - 7pts

The competition has been fierce, with these three teams showing impressive skill on the water. Despite being a new entry to the fleet, Stig Sailing has impressed many with its seamless performance, while La Pericolosa continues to prove itself as a formidable contender in the class.
The race committee plans to keep the momentum going with three more races tomorrow, with conditions expected to remain similar to today—strong winds, big swell, and plenty of sunshine.
In the evening, teams gathered for an unforgettable Gala Dinner at the Victory Morgana Restaurant, where daily prizes were awarded and the overall 2024 Cape 31 European Race Circuit winners were celebrated.
