The 29er Eurocup Finals, hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva, have kicked off with dynamic racing on Lake Garda.
Yesterday's light Ora winds allowed fleets to complete two races, but the conditions intensified, enabling the Race Committee to successfully run four additional races. Now, with six races complete and the first discard in play, the rankings have started to solidify.
Leading the fleet of over 130 sailors from 15 nations are Hungarians Soma Kis-Szölgyémi and András Sámuel Juhász (1-1-2-1). Currently second in the season's overall rankings, this duo was widely expected to perform well in the absence of the Polish leaders, Lewandowska-Krolik, who did not compete. They have certainly met those expectations, maintaining top placements and demonstrating consistent, elite-level sailing.
Trailing by a narrow three-point margin are Italians Giuseppe Montesano and Enrico Coslovich (1-1-34-1), who climbed from sixth to second overall. They also now lead the Under-17 category after surpassing German sailors Lucas and Moritz Hamm (14-2-1-1), who moved from fifth to third.
In fourth, and leading the female teams, are France's Petronille Lescanne and Raphaelle Kimbel (2-9-1-1). The best-performing mixed crew, Poland's Antonina Puchowska and Mateusz Gasiorowski (1-4-3-3), currently hold fifth place.
Today marked the end of the qualifying rounds. Tomorrow, racing resumes at 9:00 a.m., with competitors divided into Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Emerald fleets. The Gold fleet will battle for both the event victory and the seasonal podium.
