Hebe Haven Yacht Club 24 Hour Charity Dinghy Race 2024 Preview

by Camellia Poon 15 Oct 02:35 NZDT 19-20 October 2024

In Hong Kong on 19 & 20 October 2024, the fun and inclusive Hebe Haven Yacht Club (HHYC) annual event, the 24 Hour Charity Dinghy Race, returns and will be celebrating its 21st Anniversary. Join us for 'All the Fun of the Fair' and spend a weekend with live entertainment rocking the day and night away.

This 24 Hour Charity Dinghy Race is Hebe Haven Yacht Club's flagship annual event and is the largest and longest-running 24-hour endurance dinghy race in Asia, which attracts incredibly diverse participants to sail for 24 hours in the waters of Pak Sha Wan. The weekend provides the perfect platform for sailors and non-sailors to mingle both on and off the water, helping promote the fun and excitement of sailing and raising over HKD12.7 million for local charities since 2002.

The event takes place over a two-day weekend and is expected to attract visitors, dinghy race teams, volunteers and supporting sponsors. The race village featuring a diverse variety of interactive booths and land-based activities and entertainment will be available for visitors to enjoy the weekend vibes with families and friends and raise money for local charities. Jimmy2Times will be headlining the bands at this event on Saturday night party from 8pm - 10pm, so don't miss out on the carnival atmosphere by the marina.

This year there are about 40 - 45 boats racing at the 24 Hour Charity Dinghy Race, with representatives from different clubs, schools and organisations raced in the sheltered waters immediately in front of HHYC, the 24 Hour Charity Dinghy Race offers a challenging lap race sailed around a short course (over approximately one nautical mile). This charity event is a great one for those who wish to "sail for charities" and those looking for some competitive racing out on the water.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. Donation boxes will be set up around the event and at the entrance—with everyone encouraged to make a contribution. As in previous years, the five local worthy charities we support are: Children's Cancer Foundation, TREATS, IDEAL, Sailability Hong Kong Limited and the Sai Kung District Community Centre. Donations are open from now on until midnight on 1 November 2024.

HHYC is once again grateful for the full support of sponsors including, St James's Place, Knight Frank, Piercey Marine Limited, Corney & Barrow, Bon Café and Carlsberg. Supporting partners include Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Associação de Vela de Macau, The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club, Sailfish Sports and Oolaa Group.

As well as watching the dinghy racing, spectators and those not sailing can enjoy heaps of fun in our carnival village with activities for everyone.

  • Kids' activities: interactive booths, games, balance bikes, bouncy castles, arts & crafts, face painting and more.

  • Music & dance: bop till you drop with live bands including the ever-popular Jimmy2Times as well Irish, Bollywood and even Morris dance demonstrations throughout the weekend.

  • Family fun & fitness: over 40 market stalls, charity booths, tug of war competition, raft races, HIIT fitness classes and Piloxing classes.

  • F&B galore: get your fill at our food trucks from Ali Oli, Enoteca Group, BJ's and HHYC's beer tent.
