First verdicts for the 19th Palermo-Montecarlo, the offshore sailing regatta organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, involved in America's Cup campaign with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, with the collaboration of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the Yacht Club de Monaco.

  • Arrival at 08:24 in front of the Principality. The new record is 44 hours 34 minutes and 14 seconds
  • Second place for Lucky at 09:18, also under the record, and first provisional overall
  • Balthasar is expected to arrive in the afternoon, then a night of arrivals is expected

Crossing the finish line at 08:34 this morning in front of Monte Carlo, the 30-meter maxi Black Jack 100 of the Dutch owner Remon Vos, skipper Tristan Le Brun, also on board the former skipper Mark Bradford, shattered the race record, in 44 hours, 34 minutes and 14 seconds, lowering by over 3 hours the record that had stood since 2015 and belonged to the same boat with the name of Esimit Europa 2.

With this Line Honours Black Jack 100 wins the Giuseppe Tasca D'Almerita Trophy to the first in real time, and immediately after the crossing on board the crew toasted with a bottle of Tasca D'Almerita brut. Satisfaction on the dock for the owner Remon Vos: "My first race, splendid conditions, a victory with a record: what more could I wish for! It was a beautiful and exciting race, for the duel with Lucky and for the moments along the route, the start, the gate in Porto Cervo, the Costa Smeralda, the Straits. A great race and I want to thank the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, the hospitality in Palermo, the welcome in Monaco."

Glory also for Lucky, the 27-meter American boat owned by Brion Erharth with skipper Stuart Wilson and Joca Signorini calling tactics: it crossed the finish line at 9:18, about 45 minutes after Black Jack, who was also under the old record of the race. On the dock, celebrations and mutual compliments between the two crews. While waiting for the other arrivals, Lucky is also first in compensated time.

The decisive moment, in which Black Jack overtook and distanced Lucky, at dawn today: a drop in the wind, which turned from South to North East, favored the 100-footer with light airs.

The US owner Brion Erharth enthusiastically on the dock: "We will not forget this race and the duel with Black Jack, our sailors did an extraordinary job and only the lighter wind this morning prevented us from staying in the wake of the 100-footer, we are still very satisfied".

The Palermo-Montecarlo is also an extraordinary opportunity for visibility for Palermo, its territory and the historic link with the sea, through the values of deep-sea sailing. The 2024 edition of the regatta can count on the co-participation of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, the support of UniCredit and Fondazione Sicilia, and the partnership of Tasca d'Almerita, Centro Porsche Palermo and Immedia.

Included in the circuit of "long" regattas of the FIV Italian Offshore Sailing Championship, among those with the highest coefficient for the purposes of the score for the final classification, the Palermo-Montecarlo is also part of the prestigious circuits: IMA Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge; Trofeo d'Altura del Mediterraneo; Mediterranean Trophy for the Class40 and the 2024 edition of the Championnat et Trophées Inshore et Offshore Méditerranée en Équipages-IRC.
