Competitors revelling in the challenging conditions

The weather gods threw all kinds of weather at competitors on the third day of the 2024 Yacht Sales Co Regatta. There was no rain, then there was a lot rain. There was no sun, then the sun broke through. There was little wind, then there were tremendous gusts of wind.

Little did it matter though as nothing dampened the enthusiasm of the 90 competing sailors, who celebrated a hard day on the water with a sumptuous feast and suckling pig onshore at the Phuket Yacht Club.

Race Officer Simon James has done an outstanding job of varying the courses. Day three saws Simon send the competitors on an around-the-islands course off of Chalong Bay that tested everyone's navigation skills.

Craig Nicholls and his team on Alright continued to shine in the Monohull Racing division as the experienced crew won their fifth straight race. Aftershock with Michael Lockley and Russell Murphy aboard (both former Commodores of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club) was third on the day, and now sits five points behind Alright in second spot. Neil's Degenkolw's Phoenix was second on the day and only just behind Alright on corrected. Phoenix now sits third place overall with only a point to Aftershock.

Multihull Racing Division saw John Hearne's Boreas have a great day winning the race, which now puts them overall on four points behind John Newnham's Twin Sharks, which finished second on the day. George Eddings Blue Nose was third and sits it that same spot in the overall standings.

In Multihull Cruising, James Baxter's Zephyrus claimed top honours and now sits two points back of Andy McDermott Corsair Trident heading into race four.

The regatta has a lay day on Saturday followed by a two more days of racing with the final party and awards ceremony being held at Kan Eang 2 restaurant on Monday July 15th.
