Team Crewsaver, the first all-ladies fishing team to enter the Sea Angling Classic, made an indelible mark on the event, held from June 20-23, 2024, at Premier Marina Port Solent, UK. With less than ten hours together on the water before the competition, the team faced two days of intense fishing in testing and tough Solent conditions.
Competing against 33 boats and over 90 anglers, the team of four; Gemma Robins, Hannah Burywood, Izzy George and Emma York, displayed remarkable determination and teamwork, all while raising awareness for Cancer Research UK by wearing their bright pink Crewsaver Crewfit Sport 165N lifejackets.
The competition kicked off with a promising start as Team Crewsaver began catching Smooth-Hounds within minutes on day one, lifting their spirits and setting a positive tone.
Despite facing further challenges on day two, including an anchor issue, the team's resolve only grew stronger. The misfortune united them, showcasing their hard work and dedication.
After the two days, all results were collated and prizes awarded to the longest of each species, best small boat, junior and lady. For the second year running Gemma Robins was presented with Best Lady Angler and dedicated the award to the team, saying "This isn't the best Lady award, this should be for the best Ladies, because without all of the girls I wouldn't be receiving this. This is for all of the Crewsaver ladies."
"We came into this competition with minimal time on the water together, but our shared passion for fishing and raising awareness for cancer research brought us together in a powerful way," said Izzy George, Survitec Marketing Manager and Team Crewsaver angler. "The tough conditions only strengthened our bond, and it was incredible to see how we supported each other through every challenge. I hope our journey inspires others to embrace the sport and stand up for causes they believe in."
