Cleveland Race Week (CRW) has undoubtedly become one of the largest sailing regattas on Lake Erie and one of the largest in the country.
The annual event has been hosted by Edgewater Yacht Club for over 40 years, attracting hundreds of boats from across the United States and Canada. In addition to hosting one-design racing for J/105s and J/111s, this year also featured the J/70 Great Lakes Championship.
J/70 Great Lakes
Winning the regatta quite handily after the eleven-race regatta was David Koski's SOUL, finishing with all bullets and 10 pts net. Taking second was David Kerr's COCO LOCO with 16 pts net, while Tod Sackett's FM ended up winning a tiebreaker at 19 pts net to take the bronze medal. Losing that tiebreaker on countback to settle for fourth place was Wes Whitmeyer's SLINGSHOT.
J/105 Class
The seven-boat class had quite the battle for the top of the leaderboard. In the end, it was a familiar San Francisco team led by Bruce Stone & Nicole Breault on ARBITRADE that took class honors with 9 pts. Second just two points back was Hickman Kjoller's KASHMIRE RACING with 11 pts. Rounding out the podium and taking the bronze medal was Robert Mock's UNBRIDLED with 15 pts.
J/111 Class
Winning the J/111 class was Jeff Davis's SHAMROCK with 7 pts total, winning every race! Another local sailing family, Rob Ruhlman's SPACEMAN SPIFF, ended up taking the silver medal with 10 pts. Then, taking the bronze medal was Seth & Kevin Young's BLACK SEAL with 13 pts.
