May 2023, this year's Solaris Cup was acknowledged by all as a fantastic event. With a record number of yachts attending (almost 60) the docks were buzzing. Over victory went to Jamie Sammut's well sailed Solaris 42 Unica.
This was the ninth edition of the Cup and has become an import date in the calendar for Solaris owners. A busy schedule of both racing and shore side events was enjoyed by all.
The weather gods smiled upon the fleet and the stunning Gulf of Porto Rotondo. The last race took place on an unprecedented 'butterfly' course of about 15 miles. The fleet sailed around all the islets, on scenic and exciting grazing passages near pink granite rocks in the turquoise waters of the Costa Smeralda. At 12:40 on Saturday 27th May, with about 10 knots from the N-NW, the Committee kicked off the second and final race. The narrow passage between Le Camere and Mortorio was like a natural clearance. From here, the winners of the Solaris Cup 2023 immediately came out well, crystallising the previous day's brilliant results. The Maltese crew of Jamie Sammut's Solaris 42 UNICA returned to the podium, followed by Paolo Buonvicini's Solaris 62 DOUG - which despite her age still demonstrated remarkable speed - and the third position was secured by Maurizio Corati's Solaris 55 ANGELA.
The prize-giving ceremony saw a host of prizes awarded, including an IWC stopwatch to the overall winner and an experience at the lovely Oasi Zegna in the Biellese Alps the owner of Solaris 50 KALOS, Maurizio Bertozzi.
The Solaris yard also thanked all owners and crews from all over the world, who's participation and enthusiasm have made this event so special over the past 9 years.
"Organising this event is a very important commitment for the yard," commented Solaris Yachts President Federico Gambini. "At the Saturday evening alone, there were over 650 guests, but the smiles and enthusiasm of all the participants more than repaid the organisational effort. The concept of 'big family' is more suited than ever, as is the teamwork of the Solaris team, the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo, our partners and the crews to whom our thanks go. From tomorrow we start looking towards 2024, a special year that marks the 50th anniversary of the Solaris yard and which - I am sure - will be another opportunity for a memorable Solaris Cup".
Over the past few days in Porto Rotondo, the past, present and future of the yard were the protagonists of these three days, also thanks to the participation of everyone, who came to enjoy the sport and the social events in the idyllic Porto Rotondo location.
The event is organised by the Solaris Yachts yard with the support of main partners B&G, Iren and IWC, and the collaboration of the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo and the Marina di Porto Rotondo.
