26-27 November 2022
The training camp at WPNSA was run jointly with the RS Tera Southern Squad, and saw eight South West boats travel from as far as Fowey to join with 30 Southern boats, for a weekend of Tera-specific coaching.
Run by four RS Tera Class Association coaches - all of them ex Tera sailors themselves - the group split into three fleets (one RS Tera Pro, and two RS Tera Sport) with the groups rotating around the coaches to cover different subjects.
Saturday was an early start to try and beat the wind, which was forecast to build through the day, and was an exciting morning on the water. By the time the fleet came ashore for a late lunch it was gusting high 20's. All of the sailors did extremely well in the conditions, and there were a lot of happy smiling faces! Saturday afternoon was spent ashore doing various theory sessions, culminating in a very well received talk on mindset and goal setting.
After a wet and windy night, Sunday dawned dry and quiet. The sailors started with a fitness session, before launching for a good morning on the water in relatively light winds. After lunch, the wind dropped further, but this didn't dampen enthusiasm for the afternoon races. The South West Squad this weekend included travellers from www.foweygallantssc.co.uk and www.starcrossyc.org.uk. A big thank you to the Class Association, coaches, volunteers, and parents who all help to make these weekends what they are.
The RS Tera South West Squad meet again on 3rd December at Starcross.
