San Francisco - Pacific Cup race organizers announced that the first starts for the 2024 Pacific Cup, dubbed "the FUN race to Hawaii," will be Monday, July 15, on the San Francisco cityfront.

The 2,070 nautical mile race to Hawaii runs every even year. Race organizers choose the start date based on a number of factors. "We want to run at least a substantial portion of the race with good moonlight, which makes for a more comfortable passage. We also want to be mindful of optimal weather as we move toward August," says 2022 Commodore Jim Quanci.

"The July 15 start date gives our starters a predicted favorable current out the gate at the start, plus the promise of a bright, full moon once our racers are past the coastal marine layer," reported Pac Cup Commodore Hawkeye King. Commodore King has extra motivation for a comfortable passage, as he has announced his plan to race his own boat in the 2024 edition of the race.

Race organizers expect to open entries for the race in early 2023.
