TGS dominate Secondary Schools fleet racing championship at Wakatere

TGS Sailing had an outstanding win in the Inter Secondary schools Fleet racing regatta held at Wakatere Boating Club on Friday 16th September, winning the overall School Championship across all classes.
This is only the second time TGS has lifted the trophy. Back in 2004 was the last time, so this win is on the back of gaining 3rd in Auckland in the 420 Teams events earlier in the year and gaining 8th in the NZ Harken KeelBoat Championships.
TGS top Sailors on the day were Dylan Forsyth who won in the Laser Radial Class. He is currently ranked second in NZ for the Youth ILCA 6. William Mason only Year 9 also did exceptionally well in the P-Class division, winning a silver medal. He already has an impressive wrap sheet for such a young sailor.
Another awesome result came from one of TGS's all girls crew of Mischa Grotrain and Abigail Goosen, both Year 10 students. They sailed the RS Feva and were not only the first all girls crew but second overall in this class. They are part of a new up and coming group of talented girls coming through TGS Sailing.
TGS had 13 Sailors competing in the Fleet Racing Regatta these included 11 juniors; Will Westgate, Nam-Anh Nguyen, Rye Brady, Milla Henderson, Claudia Pearce, Mischa Grotrain, Abigail Goosen, Matthew Kirk, William Mason, Sienna Hawks, Jamie Kwong. Seniors were Dylan Forsyth and Zach Nigh.
TGS is heading off to the NZ 420 Nationals to held at Algies bay Yacht Club next month. The TGS 420 team consists of Vivien Chung, Dylan Forsyth, William Mason, Jamie Kwong, Caleb Newton and Mischa Grotrain.
Some former Sailors of TGS include; Sir Peter Blake, Ralph Roberts, Gavin Brady, Logan Dunning Beck, Cameron Appleton, Chris Salthouse and Paul Snow-Hansen just to name a few.
It great to see TGS Sailing back on track and with the help of TGS's new sailing Coach four times Americas Cup winner Matt Mason.
