After a long Covid break, the popular North West Senior Traveller series for the over 50s returned with a shortened series of just three events this autumn. These were held at Bolton, Delph and Leigh & Lowton Sailing Clubs.

After an 18 month gap it was wonderful to renew old friendships on the land and competitive rivalries on the water. Also good to see some new faces who had turned the magic 50 during lock down.Despite the long lay off and some cold and blustery conditions at Bolton and Delph (not to mention a petrol shortage) turnouts were good with 31 boats taking part in the series. Hopefully next year will see the series return to a full programme running from April to October.

This year there was a new winner winner. Mark Platt from Bolton S C sailing a Supernova narrowly beat previous winner Richard Catchpole from Leigh Sailing a Solo with a victory in the very last race to clinch the series. In 3rd and 4th places were two more Supernovas from Bolton sailed by Tony Critchley and Andy Flitcroft. This strong display by the 3 Bolton sailors was sufficient to give Bolton the champion club trophy. The first double handler trophy went to Dave Southwell and Michelle Raines from Leigh Sailing an Enterprise. The veteran trophy for the over 70s went to Dave Woodhead from Elton S C Sailing a Solo.

Next year we plan to have an additional trophy for the over 60s.

Notifications about the series for next year will be posted in due course on our Facebook group (search for North West Dinghy Sailors Senior Traveller series) Information will also hopefully appear on the RYA north west site. There is also a what's app group for competitors.

Full results for this year are available on the NWSTT Facebook group.
