The third day of races at the 2021 420 World Championships started with a very light breeze in the morning that forced the Race Committee to delay the competition on shore for 2 hours.
The first warning signal was intended to be at 11am, but finally sailors were sent to courses at midday, when a nice easterly breeze of 7-8 knots arrived to Aregai's bay.
Unfortunately that breeze didn't last long and only allowed one race to be hardly completed for most of fleets, with many of boats grabbing a DNF due to the wind drop on the last part of the race. In the Women's fleet for instance there were only 12 boats that managed to arrive on time at the finish line. The Mixed/Men's green group was the only fleet with this fourth race cancelled.
The Under 17 championship continues to be led by Jaime Ayarza / Mariano Hernandez ESP (13-2-1-2) with 5 points, followed now by Women's U17 leaders Maria Perello / Marta Cardona ESP (15-1-10-1) with 12. Zou Schemmel / Jean Philippe Boudard FRA (5-4-12-6) are third overall with 15.
Overnight Women's leaders Paula Laiseca / Isabel Laiseca ESP (13-1-1-3) had a hard fight today to preserve their lead and finally made it with a third place, counting now 5 points in total. Neus Ballester / Andrea Perello ESP (1-4-2-4) are still on the chase with 7 points and holding the second place. The winners of today's only race Solenza Mariani / Clara Olive FRA (6-5-3-1) are third with 9 points.
Don't miss the interview we made with them at the marina:
In the Men/Mixed championship we'll need to wait for the green group to complete their fourth race to update the scoring. Yesterday's leaders were Will Michels / Spencer Kriegstein USA (2-11-1) with 3 points, followed by Lampis Giannoulis / Eleni Giannouli GRE (12-1-3) and Sebastian Riquelme / Miguel Perez ESP (1-3-13), both with 4 points.
