The Yachting New Zealand Olympic selectors have announced, one of the toughest selection decisions of the postponed 2020 Olympic Sailing Regatta.

Should they run with 2019 Finn Gold Cup winner Josh Junior for the Finn Olympic berth, or opt for the 2021 champion Andy Maloney?

Both are double America's Cup winners.

Josh Junior finished third in the recent Finn Gold Cup in Porto Portugal, in a series that was shortened by two days because of the big Atlantic swells.

The 2019 Finn Gold Cup was sailed in Melbourne in fresh conditions in which Junior reveled. Maloney was 6th.

Junior sailed in the 2016 Olympics in the Finn class, his first Olympics finishing in 7th place overall. Maloney tried out for the NZ Laser spot in the 2016 Olympics, but missed out to Sam Meech, who won the Bronze medal. He put on 10kg and rejoined the Emirates Team NZ squad ahead of Josh Junior who joined after the Olympics.
