Since the group of intrepid British and French WASZP sailors announced the Foil for Life Challenge on the 19th July, the team have been working hard organising the logistics, drumming up support, creating safety plans, training and fund-raising. A major milestone has been reached today with the announcement of Lemer Pax as the title sponsor for the challenge.

A worldwide leader in innovation in the radiation protection sector, Lemer Pax creates, designs, and engineers efficient radiation protection solutions for healthcare, research, industry, and nuclear applications. With over 50 years of innovation, Lemer Pax exports all over the world, eco-aware and cutting edge of technology radiation protection products. The company strives for excellence to protect the most important thing: Life!

The support of Lemer Pax ensures that every single Euro and Pound raised will go to the NHS and Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris (APHP).

French sailor and co-ordinator of the French contingent of WASZP sailors taking part in the channel crossing Manu Guedon said:

"As preparations for the Foil for Life Challenge have progressed, I am delighted that the French company Lemer Pax has become the main partner. Lemer Pax is a well-known company based in Nantes, working in radiation protection solutions for the healthcare sector. Historically, the Lemer family has always been close to the sea and boats. It only took a few minutes for Lemer Pax to support the challenge as they recognised it not only from a sailing point-of-view, but also due to the use of Advanced Foil Technology and the innovative spirit of the event. Lemer Pax is already working actively with the APHP and the NHS so there was an immediate synergy."

The Founder of Foil For Life, Hattie Rogers add:

"I am so delighted that Lemer Pax have come onboard as the title sponsor for our Foil for Life Challenge. They are a perfect match! From a lockdown vision just a few weeks ago to becoming a reality, it's just amazing and I now hope that we can not only achieve our marathon goal of foiling from Lymington to Le Havre, but also raise as much money as possible for the NHS and APHP via the www.foilforlife.com website. A massive thank you must also go to our Silver and Bronze sponsors and to all those who have sponsored in kind and to those who have offered their time and their RIBs as safety support boats. Now we just have to send it!"

The Foil for Life Challenge by Lemer Pax will see six WASPZ sailors take on the Channel, sailing between Lymington and Le Havre. A route of 103 miles and an estimated 10 hours of foiling. The sailors are training hard to ensure they have the endurance needed for what will undoubtably be an arduous sail, but their determination to raise money for the amazing charities is spurring them forwards.

The time window for the challenge is 12th-20th August with a 10-15 knot South Westerly providing the ideal conditions for the challenge. The team will travel in a Covid-secure manner with a full support team on RIBs.

Donations can be made via the www.foilforlife.com website, where you can find more information about the team of sailors; Hattie Rogers, Edward Higson & William Heathcote from the UK and Pierre Leboucher, Mael Garnier & Corentin Horeau from France.

Further updates as to exactly when the team will be departing will be published in due course, with photos and videos regularly sent to social media channels, including @FoilForLife on twitter, the sailing media and news channels throughout the day of the Foil for Life Challenge by Lemer Pax. You will also be able to follow the sailors progress via YB Tracking devices on each of the boats.
