Expressions of Interest - Sailing Champion's League

Breitling - Sailing Champion's League © Drummoyne Sailing Club

Drummoyne Sailing Club has the opportunity to compete in the Sailing Champions League and we are looking for expressions of interest from our members as both potential sponsors and as competitors.

This is an opportunity to be part of a new exciting sailing format on our home waters west of the Harbour Bridge. Enjoy highly competitive sailing and a carnival atmosphere, all in the waters off Clarke's Point. Competition, camaraderie and sailing for the pride of Drummoyne Sailing Club!

This is the second time The Sailing Champions League has been held in Australia. It is hugely popular in Europe and America and we see no reason why it won't gain the same sort of traction here. It's Club against Club to ultimately find the best Open, Youth and Female crews in the world. It's fast paced with a qualifying regatta consisting of a round robin and final series with up to 43 short races in 6 identical supplied one design RS 21's yachts.

The qualifying regatta is to be held on the weekend of 14 and 15 March and is being run by Hunters Hill Sailing Club. The goal is to create a carnival atmosphere in the park at Clarks Point which will provide a natural stadium for the racing which will be held just off the sea wall.

The Oceania final is going to be held by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron on the weekend of 3 & 4 April.

The supplied RS 21s being used by the league are the latest high-tech sports keel boat and are a seriously nice bit of kit. The format provides a huge amount of fun and the opportunity to show off your sailing skills.

I know DSC has the talent and we will have the home water advantage so I know we can at least progress to the Oceania final. If you're up for some seriously good, fun, fast paced sailing, let us know by completing a really short questionnaire.

We can enter up to three crews with a maximum of 5 on board for the Youth and Women's Team and 4 for the Open and every team must have a least one female on board.

This is an opportunity for DSC to show what we are made of on our home waters.

We want to hear from individuals who would like to put their hand up but if you think you can put together a slick team, it will make the Sailing Committee's job easier when it comes to selecting who will represent DSC this time round. This is now an annual event so the bigger the pool of sailors we can draw on for the future, the better.

There are entry fees and there will be training opportunities using the supplied RS21's (for a price) so if you're a local business who might consider sponsoring DSC for this event, we want to hear from you too. Given the amount of press this event will attract I am sure we can put together a very attractive sponsorship package so let's talk. We see this as an opportunity for the Club to engage with the local community in a relaxed, carnival atmosphere and we would like to involve as many people as we can.

Go to this link www.surveymonkey.com/r/GJZH6Q7 and let us know if you're interested as either an individual, a team or as a sponsor. It will take less than 1 minute to complete. We will then contact you to find out more information so we can take DSC's participation in this event to the next stage.

Be part of this great opportunity to represent Drummoyne on our home waters and on the world stage.
