2018 International 14 World Championships at Richmond Yacht Club - Overall

by Simon Butterworth 25 Aug 2018 16:34 NZST 16-25 August 2018

The British father son duo, Andy and Tom Partington, led into the final day with a six point margin closely being chased by three other International 14 teams. Wind was light but due to increase and the bets were favouring the Brits.

Hectic committee boat end start and the fleet split both sides. The top boats went left and concentrated on the port lay-line to the windward mark. Douglas Pattison and Mark Tait (GBR 1561) rounded first pursued by the Aussies, Mark Krstic and James Lanati. The four World Champion contenders were fighting through the fleet watching every step their rivals took.

Pattison and Tait lead throughout to take a well-deserved win with Krstic and Lanati following over the final finish line. The Partington's crept through with stealth gaining places throughout each leg, as has their performance throughout the regatta, to take another podium and the World Championships. The boys from Hayling Island Sailing Club were ecstatic and the infamous father hug or chock hold was repeated for the final time in San Francisco.
