34 participants from 5 nations, including new Melges 24 World Champion Chris Rast from Switzerland, attended the German Eurocup at lovely Lake Walchensee.
Friday started with sunny weather. After the wind died it came back in afternoon with 10-15 knots. Three races were sailed in nice foiling conditions. Chris Rast showed phenomenal upwind speed with his Lennon A1M+ modified for "S-boom", and Max Maege nearly won race 3 with his new Lennon A2M...only stopped due a broken mainsheet strop.
Saturday: A storm was in the forecast. The fourth race started in 15-18 knots, the fifth and sixth races had gusts up to 28 knots. 0nce again Chris Rast showed his skill and won all three races.
After the finish of race three, all sailors were sent ashore as racing were cancelled for the day. The storm hit soon after with gusts up to 34 knots. A few minor damages, like broken stays or broken wing bars, needed safety boats to rescue the sailors.
A nice relaxing afternoon was enjoyed in the club with coffee and cake after everything and everybody was safely ashore. While waiting for the barbeque, several top speeds and high speed pitch poles where discussed and embellished.
Performer of the day was Markus Hirsch with 31 knots new personal top speed! And records show he is now the new Austrian Moth speed record holder with his new Lennon A2M helping him along the way.
Sunday: Walchensee from at its best! Sunny weather, no clouds, thermal wind starts early and we us enjoy five races in 12-18 ktns of wind. Champagne sailing! Maybe it was bit too much for the older gents having 5 races at full distance - and even some younger guys seemed to be at their limit.
Chris Rast, seventh at the last Moth World Champs, took overall victory with seven bullets, two seconds and a DNC in the last race.
Max Mäge was second, beating Chris Rast in one race and taking one more bullet and the most second places - with a big lead to the third place Michael Schönleitner from Austria.
