Derbyshire Youth Sailing has organised a series of Winter Learning Events for the next generation of Derbyshire's novice racing sailors of all ages. Experienced racing sailors are welcome too. The content is targeted for both sailors and their support teams (Parents/carers/partners/siblings/friends) to attend. To help reduce travelling time for those attending and to provide the opportunity across Derbyshire, the same content of two themes will be repeated at two locations.
The event schedule starts on Tuesday 13th January 7:30pm @ Burton Sailing Club with the first opportunity for sailors to learn about "Racing sailing at open events". This talk is being repeated on the 27th January at Combs Sailing Club. The third event is the first of a pair on "Nutrition and hydration for racing sailors" which will take place at Ogston Sailing Club on Tuesday 10th February and is to be repeated at Combs Sailing Club on the 24th February.
There is also an event, to be held at Carsington Sailing Club on the evening of Wednesday 11th March, aimed specifically at youth sailors and their support team members. This is both an introduction to the RYA Youth & Junior Pathway and for the NSSA National Events, focusing particularly on the NSSA National Regatta in 2015 and the Derbyshire Team that will be competing for National Honours at the chosen venue, Rutland Sailing Club.
This fifth learning event will provide information to help youth sailors know what opportunities there are for them to progress through the RYA Pathway, that is a part of the route to being in the GB Olympic Sailing Team, and how to go about taking those steps to achieving their highest possible performance.
DYS Training Co-ordinator Des Luxton comments "We are delighted to be able to provide these new learning events for racing sailors in Derbyshire. We look forward to showing them the opportunities that there are for them to race at open events, get into top physical condition and set themselves on a pathway to possible International and even Olympic competition".
There will be further learning and training events so that the Derbyshire racing sailors development can be supported and extended, giving them the tools to really be able to enjoy their racing sailing and perform at the highest level they can possibly achieve.
Entry to the Winter Learning Events costs just £2.50 per person and includes light refreshments and there may be some freebies to take away with you.
