20th Singapore Straits Regatta - Overall

by Icarus Sailing Media 19 Jan 2014 20:23 NZDT 14-18 January 2014

The final day of the 20th Singapore Straits Regatta saw the IRC and SB20 fleets gathered at One Degree 15 marina.

All the medals would be decided today, and the wind forecast was for gusts up to and over 20 knots, so the sailors made sure their boats and rigs were in good shape before going out.

The SB20 class faced three races today, while the IRC fleet had a windward/leeward plus a coastal race to contend with. The coastal race saw the fleet sailing along the spectacular Singapore coastline, between an armada of anchored ships. Reaching the east side of Singapore one class after the other rounded the mark heading back to the finishing line.

Conditions improved enough for spinnakers to be hoisted, which whistled the fleet downwind, a perfect way to finish the week for them after three tiring days of tough conditions over in Indonesia.

In the evening the awards ceremony followed at One Degree 15 marina where all competitors enjoyed the warm hospitality and the great party that followed.

Overall Results:

SB20
1st Zenith
2nd Xcelent
3rd Pocapena

IRC Open
1st Blue Note
2nd Rekering Dreams
3rd Halyi 1

IRC C
1st Shoon Fung Too
2nd Waka Tere
3rd SMU

J24
1st Jangan Main Main
2nd Quaterdeck
3rd Shengli

So windy conditions and tough racing for all to remember until next year's Singapore Straits Regatta. Thanks for watching.
