Comet Open at Shearwater Sailing Club

by Roger Devereux 22 Apr 2005 05:46 NZST 16 April 2005

Shearwater Sailing Club welcomed eleven Comets to Lord Baths Puddle with visitors travelling from as far as Peterborough, Frencham, Beer and Merthyr Tydfil.

The day started with a light and patchy westerly making the fleet work hard for position between wind holes. The race for the line developed into a two boat race between Henry Jaggers from Beer and Brian Welham from Taplow Lake. First place changed frequently on the figure of eight course right through to the end where Henry just snatched line honours with Jake Sutton from Poole third. Race two after lunch saw a changed course and more consistent wind. Jake went to an early lead but was challenged constantly by Brian. Again close racing throughout the fleet. Six laps later gave Jake the win, Brian second and Emma Coppenhall from Hunts SC third.

With no outright winner decided race three was competed over the same course with a possible chance for three people to take the Trophy home. Jake Sutton again fought hard for the lead, this time with John Coppenhall(Hunts). Jake took the line with John second and Brian Welham third.

Overall Results:

1st Jake Sutton
2nd Brian Welham
3rd Henry Jaggers
